Accessibility statement
22 October 2026
We want everyone to be able to use our websites, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or voice control. This statement covers hazarddashboards.com, the Hazards Map at hazardsmap.com, Hazards Map Lite and our status page. Each council dashboard has its own statement at /accessibility on its own address.
Our target
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Council dashboards also aim to meet four level AAA criteria: Focus Not Obscured (Enhanced), Focus Appearance, Target Size (Enhanced) and Animation from Interactions.
How we check
Automated accessibility checks run on every change, including keyboard, focus and colour contrast checks in real browsers. We also test by hand with screen readers before releases.
Motion
Animations on this site stop when your device is set to reduce motion. You can also stop them at any time with the Pause animations button at the top of the page.
Known limitations
- On the Hazards Map, the map can only be panned by dragging with a pointer. Instead you can use the arrow keys when the map has focus, the zoom buttons, search, or the item list, which shows the same information.
- On the Hazards Map, the basemap, area outlines and other shapes drawn on the map don't all reach a 3:1 contrast ratio. Markers, controls and the item list do.
- Warning text comes from official agency feeds and is shown as the agency published it.
Other ways to get this information
Hazards Map Lite is a simpler version of the map that works without JavaScript and on slow connections: Hazards Map Lite
